The Vidyadaras were dancing in one area. The assembly hall
measured eight thousand miles in circumference. All over,
numerous servants were engaged in various services. Lord Brahma,
Lord Siva and other demigods saw Lord Hari (Narayana) sitting in
the centre on a precious jeweled throne; He looked like the moon
surrounded by many stars. He was wearing a crown on His head,
earrings, and a wildflower garland round His neck and sandal
paste on His body. Holding a lotus in His hand, He was smiling,
watching the dancers and listening to the music. He looked very
tranquil. Laksmi was gently holding His feet and He was chewing
the sweet-scented betel she had given Him. Ganga was fanning Him
devotedly with a white chamara, and others were singing hymns to
Him with their heads lowered in devotion. There, with throats
parched due to anxiety, they took refuge of Lord Narayana, the
Lord of all. They offered obeisance’s to Him and praised Him
repeatedly and finally explained why they were so apprehensive.
Lord Narayana bestowed His mercy on them and granted them the
power to be fearless. He said, "O fearful ones, be consoled. How
can you be afraid of anyone while I am here? If anyone remembers
me when he is in danger, wherever he may be, I hurry to him with
my Sudarsan disc in my hand and save him. O demigods! I am
always the creator, preserver and destroyer of this universe. In
the form of Vishnu, I am the preserver; in the form of Brahma,
the creator; and in the form of Siva, the destroyer. I am Siva,
I am you, and I am Surya. I assume numerous forms and preserve
the universe. So go back to your respective places. You have
nothing to be afraid of. All will be well. "
By
saying this, Lord Sri Narayana took a deep breath, by which, a
tiny Boar fell from his nostrils. Wondering what that creature
was, it grew and grew till it was in size of a large Mountain.
The incarnation of Lord Sri Narayana is bright white in color,
glowing with gold ornaments. He has a boar’s head on a human
body with four arms ( Upper Right hand holding Sudarsana Chakra
( wheel ) , upper left hand holding conch-shell , lower right
hand be in the protection and boon giving mode and lower left
hand with lotus ). Lord Brahma filled with wonder, joy and
tears, worshipped the Lord with the name “Sri Sweta Varaha
Murthy”.
Emitting a terrifying roar, he ( Lord Vishnu in the form of
Boar) took one mighty leap into the air and tore the clouds with
its hoofs and dived to the bed of ocean in search of Mother
Earth. He reached the other end of the ocean and discovered in
its depths the object of its quest - Bhoomidevi ( Mother Earth).
Meanwhile Hiranyaksha rushed to the seashore where he
encountered with Varuna, the lord of the ocean, and challenged
him for a fight. Varuna became very angry as he knew that at
this moment Hiranyaksha was mightier than him so he curbed his
anger and said, " I have given up fighting as I am too old. You
must find out Vishnu; none but he alone would be an equal
opponent for you. Go seek him out."
Meanwhile the boar brought the earth over the surface of the
ocean and placed Bhoomidevi ( Mother Earth) gently on it and
blessed her, May you support yourself in keeping with the divine
order”. Meanwhile the Boar had just dug his tusk into the
ocean-bed and lifted Mother Earth onto it, and began rising
towards the surface. Hiranyaksha rushed towards him with a mace
in his hand saying, "You fraudulent fellow! Where are you
carrying away the earth conquered by me? Stop or I'll crush your
head with this mace!"
