Lord
Sri Ugra Narashimha Swami
Ugra
Narashimha is sculptured in stonewall, as shown in the picture,
on the right hand side of the main deity Lord Lakshminarahsimha
in Namakkal main cave temple. Baktha Pragalatha is standing in
fort of Lord Ugra Narashimha and offering his prayers in this
temple.
Lord Sri Shiva prays to the Lord Ugra Nrushimha as follows:
“ Uggram Veeram Mahavishnum Jjvalandham Sarvathhomugham !
Nrushimham Beeshanam Bathram Mruthuem Mruthuem Namamyaham !! “
“ O ! the Angry Lord ! The baleful One ! The incarnation of Lord
Sri Hari !!
You are shining like Fire ! With full of anger, you tremble your
lion face in all the directions. Also, your face emits
firestorm. Hence, its looks like you have faces everywhere !!
O ! Lord Narashimha ! You please control your fearsome.
Otherwise, ALL will catch up with fire because of your fire
breaths !! You, Destroyer of all the destroyers !! I surrender
you !!”
It is great and powerful prayer of Lord Shiva towards Lord Sri
Narashimha Swami. Kindly notice the awesome truth in this prayer
as explained below :
Lord Shiva is created by Lord Brahma as the destroyer of the
world. He is the one who never fears for anything. But, Lord
Shiva got fear by the frightening looks and fire full breaths of
Lord Sri Narashimha. Hence, he prays with the words “Beeshanam
Bathram” Meaning is “You please control your fearsome.
Otherwise, all the places will catch fire because of your fire
breaths !!”. Also, he accepts Lord Narashimha as his Master by
the words “Mruthuem Mruthuem “, means “Destroyer of all the
Destroyers”.
Look at the Lord Sri Narashimha, has big eyes and mouth wide
open. As described in Bhagavatha, Lord Narashimha holds many
weapons in hands, but uses his nails as the weapon to kill the
demon Hiranya Kasipu.
Look at the demon Hiranya Kasipu. With just grabbing right hand
and left leg of the demon, Lord Narashimha has totally
controlled him from movement.
You could remember, “ Lion grabs the animal and start eating it.
They won’t try killing the animal. The caught animal dies slowly
with shivers “.
In the same way, Lord Sri Narashimha with lion face, caught hold
of the demon; started tearing him into peaces; drinks the blood
with wide open mouth and blade sharp tongue. Bhagavatha describes the scene as given below :
“ Lord Sri Narashimha Deva, with full of anger in eyes,
frightening roars, fire spreading in all the directions, licking
teeth with sharp tongue, tore Hiranyakasipu’s chest with nails.
The flesh and blood rushed out of demon’s body and spread all
over the thighs and body of Lord. Lord Sri Narashimha Deva drank
the blood and began ripping the demon to pieces with his many,
many hands. Lord Nrsimha’s mouth and mane became sprinkled with
drops of blood, fierce eyes, full of anger, was impossible to
look at. Licking the edge of mouth with his tongue, the Supreme
Lord decorated Himself with a garland of intestines taken from
Hiranyakasipu's abdomen. Lord Narashimha uprooted
Hiranyakasipu’s heart and finally threw him aside”.
